Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King (2022)

Let’s start our zapping with one that premiered in March this year. Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King is available as a streaming service on the Netflix platform. “When the young founder of a collapsing cryptocurrency exchange dies unexpectedly, irate investors suspect there’s more to his death than meets the eye”, summarizes Netflix.

In December 2018, 30-year-old Gerald Cotten, founder of the QuadrigaCX cryptocurrency exchange, died in India. Unfortunately, the private keys to $250 million in cryptocurrencies belonging to his clients disappeared along with him

So, Trust no One is one of these cryptocurrency movies about an investigation. In this documentary, you will follow the experiences of a group of investigators who try to determine if Cotten is really dead or if he simply took the money from the users and fled.

More about the Quadriga case- Dead Man’s Switch: A Crypto Mystery (2021)

If you’re particularly interested in what happened to Cotten and the missing millions, you’ll enjoy the following documentary. Dead Man’s Switch: A Crypto Mystery was released a year before Trust no One and had a running time of 74 minutes. Furthermore, this film is from Canada, where the QuadrigaCX exchange was based.

Bit x Bit: In Bitcoin We Trust (2019)

Some of the most influential personalities in the cryptocurrency world are Andreas Antonopolous, Brock Pierce, and Erik Voorhees. Just these three Bitcoin enthusiasts appear in Bit x Bit: In Bitcoin We Trust.

“In Bitcoin We Trust” refers to cryptocurrency seeking to transform the traditional financial system. For this reason, the slogan of this documentary parodies the official motto of the United States “In God We Trust.”

Crypto (2019)

We reviewed this film in a previous article. As we mentioned, it is one of the first big-budget movies to talk about cryptocurrencies. It has the participation of actors such as Kurt Russell (Poseidon) and lasts 105 minutes.

It is a crime drama film that tells the story of Martin “Marty” Duran, an anti-money laundering (AML) analyst who investigates to unmask a giant money laundering network.

Although critics received this crypto movie poorly, it marked a significant milestone for cryptocurrency movies.

In 2020, director Torsten Hoffmann brought us Cryptopia: Bitcoin, Blockchains, and The Future of the Internet. This documentary features the participation of Ethereum‘s (ETH) co-founder, Vitalik Buterin; Charlie Lee, creator of Litecoin (LTC), among others.
