This fall could be related to the most recent statements by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Furthermore, the panic caused by releasing stolen funds in Bitcoin from MtGox put additional pressure on the crypto market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Bitcoin affected by inflation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Friday, Powell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/26\/powell-warns-of-some-pain-ahead-as-fed-fights-to-lower-inflation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">remarked<\/a>, &#8220;While higher interest rates, slower growth, and softer labor market conditions will bring down inflation, they will also bring some pain to households and businesses.&#8221; For the executive, restoring price stability (which is close to its maximum in 40 years) will take some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This statement played an essential role in decreasing the demand for risky assets in general. As a result, both stocks and <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/cs\/2021\/02\/24\/co-je-bitcoin-neni-to-jen-jedno-z-toho\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bitcoin<\/a> closed lower on Friday. But, the cryptocurrency has recovered the value of $20,100 this Monday, August 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bitcoin, trading at $21,800 before Powell&#8217;s speech, posted a 4.1% drop. After the announcement, the S&amp;P 500 index and the Nasdaq also fell, 1.92% and 2%, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <strong>cryptocurrency\u2019s correlation with stocks weakened<\/strong>: in the last six months, Nasdaq has lost 4% and Bitcoin 46%. Thus, this sharp drop in the price of the cryptocurrency makes it <a href=\"https:\/\/fintechs.fi\/2022\/08\/29\/inflation-hedge-or-not-bitcoins-true-value-is-separation-of-money-and-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">very difficult<\/a> to consider it as a hedge against <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/cs\/2022\/06\/14\/bitcoin-hit-peak-inflation-us-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inflation<\/a> or digital gold, one of the primary uses that have determined the importance of this crypto active over the years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rumors about a Bitcoin sell-off coming from MtGox<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another factor that could be affecting the market is the rumors of 140,000 BTC coming into circulation this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8MT GOX are reportedly releasing 140k BTC tomorrow\ud83d\udea8<\/p>&mdash; The Altcoin Hub (@TheAltcoinHub) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheAltcoinHub\/status\/1563476445439340544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 27, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to information shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/cs\/2022\/05\/17\/elon-musk-pauses-offer-twitter-why-could-matter-crypto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cvrlik\u00e1n\u00ed<\/a>, creditors would receive some $2.7 billion in Bitcoin recovered from the defunct MtGox exchange in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, several creditors on the MtGox exchange <strong>denied the rumors and a scenario that would negatively affect the price of Bitcoin in the event of a sell-off<\/strong>.
