And yes, there\u2019s some good news\u2026 but not everything was bright. Let\u2019s quickly check the most important facts of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Launches in crypto and beyond<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>PayPal adopted Bitcoin and some other cryptos<\/strong> to let its customer buy, sell and pay with them. However, you won\u2019t be able to transfer nor withdraw your own funds once they\u2019re inside the platform. Yes, something <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/10\/22\/paypal-adopted-bitcoin-something-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">is wrong with this<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s not all. Apparently, PayPal wants to acquire some established crypto-companies, such as the old BitGo. Planning some centralization inside the decentralized world? [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-10-22\/paypal-said-to-be-in-talks-to-buy-crypto-firms-including-bitgo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Bloomberg<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Bitcoin-PayPal-something-wrong.jpg\" alt=\"Bitcoin-PayPal-something-wrong\" class=\"wp-image-4506\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>After years of waiting, <strong>the Filecoin mainnet is finally online and its token price skyrocketed<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/10\/16\/new-filecoin-mainnet-here-price-market-cap-skyrocket\/\">the good news<\/a>. However, by now the price it\u2019s dumped, and a large number of its miners are \u201con strike\u201d because the hardware required to contribute is very expensive and this excludes a lot of them [<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/glassnode\/status\/1319319546931646464?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1319319546931646464%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3%2Ccontainerclick_1&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-1460239789341125350.ampproject.net%2F2010132225002%2Fframe.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Glassnode<\/a>].<br><\/li><li>A new liquidity mining program is available <strong>for <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/09\/25\/93-yield-farmers-reported-high-returns-investment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>yield farmers<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong> <strong>the token BOND by BarnBridge.<\/strong> This one is described as \u201cthe first fluctuation derivative protocol\u201d, its pool #1 is designed to reduce the impermanent loss, and it works with DAI and Compound. Despite its novelty, it has already surpassed $1M in liquidity [<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/barn_bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">BarnBridge<\/a>].<br><\/li><li><strong>Ripple launched a new credit line for the institutional customers<\/strong> of their service On-Demand Liquidity (ODL). This will allow companies to <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/09\/16\/tomorrow-late-discover-now-xrp-price-predictions-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purchase XRP<\/a> from Ripple on credit, and they\u2019ll only pay a one-time fee for it. The main idea is to promote even more cross-border payments with XRP [<a href=\"https:\/\/ripple.com\/insights\/fund-instant-cross-border-payments-with-a-line-of-credit-from-ripplenet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ripple Insights<\/a>].<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>&nbsp;<strong>Hacks and scams<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>After its collapse in September, the road for the alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/10\/24\/lure-to-steal-common-cryptocurrency-scams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cryptocurrency scam<\/a> ArbiStar kept dark in October. This auto-trading platform stopped all the payments then, claiming that its bot failed and the invested BTC (around 1B dollars) was lost. They promised refunds for their clients in a sixteen-month long process.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, the legal consequences would come soon. <strong>Santiago Fuentes, the leader of this platform, was accused of fraud, belonging to a criminal organization<\/strong>, and money laundering; and he was arrested in Spain by the end of this month. The attacker took advantage of an exploit of the arbitrage and impermanent loss \u201cthat influences the value of individual assets inside the Y pool of Curve.fi\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Harvest developers are working on a security update for the protocol and a method to refund the affected people. Likewise, they\u2019re offering a $100K bounty for who helps to recover the funds [<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/harvest-finance\/harvest-flashloan-economic-attack-post-mortem-3cf900d65217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Harvest Finance<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The popular crypto-trading app Robinhood was hacked as well.<\/strong> The attack was maintained under strict privacy by the company; therefore, the number of the lost funds isn\u2019t certain. According to an anonymous source, around 2.000 accounts were affected, and some of the victims stated they\u2019ve lost thousands of dollars [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-10-15\/robinhood-estimates-hackers-infiltrated-almost-2-000-accounts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Bloomberg<\/a>].<br><\/li><li>The COVID-19 vaccine might not be ready yet, <strong>but at least now is available a simple vaccine against ransomware.<\/strong> This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/10\/04\/malware-can-steal-cryptos-how-avoid-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">type of malware<\/a> that can affect anyone in the world and usually ask for payments in cryptocurrencies after hijack all your data remotely. By installing the new software vaccine from GitHub, you can avoid this cyberattack [<a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/10\/05\/avoid-cryptocurrency-ransom-new-vaccine-ransomware-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florian Roth<\/a>].<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More laws for cryptocurrencies<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) from the United Kingdom banned this month the crypto-derivatives in their country<\/strong>. These are monetary contracts (usually for investment) that derive their value from an underlying entity \u2014cryptoassets, in this case. The FCA considers this kind of instrument too risky for retail investors [<a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/10\/08\/crypto-derivatives-to-retail-customers-are-ban-in-the-uk-but-cryptos-are-still-legal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">FCA<\/a>].<br><\/li><li>Spanish lawmakers have approved this month <strong>a bill that would compel cryptocurrency users to identify themselves and disclose their funds<\/strong> and operations to the government. This one will include an Internet connection and built-in cryptocurrency functionality for in-game purchases.
