We\u2019ve all been there. Some dubious message in the Inbox, telling something about a security issue in our provider\/platform and asking for our credentials. It\u2019s an old trick, but sometimes it seems more real, and maybe that\u2019s the case of the last fake Ledger emails sent mainly to the customers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s remember that Ledger is a provider of hardware kryptom\u011bna<\/a> wallets, i.e. small devices designed to store cryptos out of the Internet and, supposedly, in a more secure way than traditional software wallets. However, this doesn\u2019t mean their users don\u2019t have any risk at all, like it\u2019s been proved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ne\u0161lo o \u017e\u00e1dn\u00e9 p\u0159ihla\u0161ovac\u00ed \u00fadaje ani hesla, ale v\u00fdsledkem bylo, \u017ee hacke\u0159i dr\u017eeli v rukou e-maily u\u017eivatel\u016f Ledgeru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nyn\u00ed m\u016f\u017eeme vid\u011bt d\u016fsledky takov\u00e9 ud\u00e1losti, proto\u017ee navrhli \u00fato\u010dn\u00edci<\/a> obrovsk\u00e9 mno\u017estv\u00ed fale\u0161n\u00fdch e-mail\u016f Ledger a zas\u00edlaj\u00ed je z\u00e1kazn\u00edk\u016fm. Jejich hlavn\u00edm c\u00edlem je oklamat co nejv\u00edce lid\u00ed, aby ukradli jejich soukrom\u00e9 kl\u00ed\u010de a hesla, a proto kryptom\u011bny<\/a> they may have in this wallet.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To do so, an \u201cImportant Security Update\u201d informs the users about another data breach<\/strong> in Ledger, which would require them to install the last software version of this wallet. Of course, v\u0161echno je le\u017e<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the user clicks on the link provided by the fake Ledger emails, they\u2019ll be redirected to an identical version of the official company webpage, except for tiny differences in Punycode characters (for example, led\u0123\u0117<\/strong>r.com instead of ledger.com). If they choose to download the \u201cnew\u201d version on their Desktop, the panel will ask for their private keys and passwords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the crucial moment where a user might be robbed or not. The attackers need this data to have access to the funds, so, avoid giving it up at all cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t fall for fake emails<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This kind of tactic it\u2019s known as \u201cphishing\u201d. We can say it\u2019s \u010d\u00e1ste\u010dn\u011b malware<\/a> and partly a scam because, despite all the developing efforts put into it, the results depend entirely on deceiving people. So, that\u2019s the weakness of this attack: if you don\u2019t believe, you won\u2019t fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s important to always check the URL in these cases because it\u2019s a great giveaway<\/strong>. It\u2019s always different in some way from the original, because it can\u2019t exist two identical domains. Internal links and some other details use to be wrong as well on phishing sites. It\u2019s enough to be careful and pay attention to the critical details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
