An unusually high number of blockchain companies went broke in 2022, and we\u2019re still suffering the aftershocks. The next victims could be the huge crypto conglomerate <strong>Digital Currency Group (DCG), and the exchanges Huobi and Binance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u306b\u3088\u308b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-07\/crypto-empire-dcg-faces-us-investigation-over-internal-transfers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u6700\u8fd1\u306e\u30ec\u30dd\u30fc\u30c8<\/a>, DCG may be facing a US investigation over internal transfers. The Department of Justice of New York (EDNY) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would be already checking their money flows and documents. They\u2019d also be doing internal interviews to figure out the real <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2021\/02\/06\/new-ways-passive-income-crypto-stakeing-liquidity-mining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">liquidity state<\/a> of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, they haven\u2019t been accused of wrongdoing, but that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg. Earlier this month, Cameron Winklevoss (Gemini co-founder), <strong>accused Barry Silbert (DCG CEO) of owing over $1.6 billion to the crypto lender Genesis (DCG property).<\/strong> Around $900 million of that amount would belong to Gemini Earn clients. This is an interest-earning program for holding crypto, launched in 2021 as a partnership between Gemini and Genesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Earn Update: An Open Letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BarrySilbert?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BarrySilbert<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kouAviTho4\">pic.twitter.com\/kouAviTho4<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Cameron Winklevoss (@cameron) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cameron\/status\/1609913051427524608?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 2, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly, the withdrawals of the said platform were paused (and not resumed) since November 2022 \u2014after the <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2022\/12\/14\/ftx-exchange-crash-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FTX crash<\/a>. But the story goes back even further, to the collapse of the crypto fund <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2022\/07\/21\/crypto-contagion-three-arrows-downfall-millionaire-victims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u30b9\u30ea\u30fc\u30a2\u30ed\u30fc\u30ba\u30ad\u30e3\u30d4\u30bf\u30eb<\/a> (3AC) in July 2022. In that disaster, Genesis was, indeed, the largest creditor of 3AC. They had an unpaid loan of over $2.3 billion. DCG saved its crypto lender subsidiary, but, apparently, not without affecting others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Crypto liquidity issues in DCG?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, Genesis <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/digital-currency-group-shuts-down-040517209.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">fired<\/a> at least 50% of its staff since August 2022, halted redemptions since November, and it\u2019s considering bankruptcy. That poses another problem, though. As per a letter allegedly sent by Barry Silbert to their shareholders, DCG has to pay $575 million to Genesis in May 2023. <strong>In addition, there\u2019s a promissory note of $1.1 billion due in June 2032.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is apparently the letter sent out by Barry. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pgS14U5mbg\">https:\/\/t.co\/pgS14U5mbg<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/73ePBqTzNY\">pic.twitter.com\/73ePBqTzNY<\/a><\/p>&mdash; DIRTY BUBBLE MEDIA: &quot;RISK-FREE&quot; (@MikeBurgersburg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MikeBurgersburg\/status\/1595145763067072513?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 22, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the due date, this could be a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsletter.banklesshq.com\/p\/anatomy-of-the-dcg-dumpster-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">callable loan<\/a>. Since it was an internal transaction (Genesis to DCG), they wouldn\u2019t demand the funds back immediately or in the near future. However, if Genesis goes bankrupt, that changes. DCG would have to pay the promissory note immediately to Genesis creditors. If they fail to do so, it could be the doom of the conglomerate. And that\u2019s good news for no one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DCG-logo.png\" alt=\"Crypto-DCG-logo-issues\" class=\"wp-image-12555\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DCG-logo.png 200w, https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DCG-logo-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DCG-logo-12x12.png 12w, https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DCG-logo-180x180.png 180w, https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DCG-logo-67x67.png 67w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DCG is the parent crypto company not only of Genesis Global Capital. <\/strong>Their subsidiaries include Grayscale Investment (the world\u2019s largest crypto asset manager), the <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2020\/08\/25\/cryptocurrency-mining-dummies-how-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bitcoin\u30de\u30a4\u30cb\u30f3\u30b0<\/a> brand Foundry, the crypto exchange Luno, the crypto portal CoinDesk, and, until January 2023, the wealth management firm HQ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s another bad sign: they closed HQ recently. This division handled around $3.5 billion until December 2022. In the same month, the Dutch crypto exchange Bitvavo <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/117506\/dutch-bitcoin-exchange-bitvavo-alleges-digital-currency-group-is-having-liquidity-problems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">alleged<\/a> that DCG owes them almost $300 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Huobi and Binance have issues too<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The crypto exchange Huobi, in a close relationship with the cryptocurrency TRON (TRX), it\u2019s facing its own issues as well. Last October, <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2022\/12\/28\/crypto-2022-most-important-events-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">they delisted<\/a> their own stablecoin (HUSD), which provoked the crash of said token. This January, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestreet.com\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/crypto-exchange-huobi-has-bad-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u5f7c\u3089\u306f\u767a\u8868\u3057\u305f<\/a> a<strong> 20% reduction of their workforce and experienced over $60 million in token outflows in a day<\/strong>. Their stablecoin reserves dropped 9.5% in a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help with the situation, Justin Sun (TRON founder) <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/118578\/justin-sun-moves-100m-stablecoins-huobi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">sent<\/a> $100 million in stablecoins to the exchange. <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2022\/05\/12\/what-tron-blockchain-how-use-stablecoins-there\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TRX<\/a> was barely affected by the issues. However, the native stablecoin of TRON, USDD, lost its 1-USD peg slightly to $0.97. They\u2019re now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/01\/07\/binance-subpoenas-crypto-trading\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">examining<\/a> American hedge funds\u2019 dealings with the exchange. Apparently, this would be a part of a long-running <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/ja\/2022\/12\/13\/fud-binance-proof-of-reserves-us-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investigation<\/a> into potential violations of money-laundering rules. If they find something out of order, the company&#8217;s top executives would have to answer to US authorities. Nevertheless, there\u2019s no more information about it for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Wanna trade\u00a0BTC, ETH, USDT, and other tokens?
