This April, the UK HM Treasury released a report about their regulatory approach for cryptocurrencies, and especially about stablecoins. On it, they reveal that <strong>the government wants to adopt stablecoins as a common (and regulated) payment method<\/strong>. Besides, they\u2019re already planning to launch their own Non-Fungible Token (NFT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/1066166\/O-S_Stablecoins_consultation_response.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">het verslag<\/a> describes, the UK government is aiming to introduce a flexible regulation for <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/12\/06\/stablecoins-and-types-an-easy-and-brief-lesson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stabiele munten<\/a>. This one will be focused on the coins pegged to some fiat currency or a basket of fiat currencies. The issuers will need to have enough reserves, and they\u2019ll be under the supervision of the Bank of England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The authorities are also looking for a \u201cglobal alignment\u201d in the matter since stablecoins are meant to be used as a borderless currency. <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2021\/01\/24\/what-proof-of-stake-pos-coins-passive-income\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Proof-of-Stake<\/a> (PoS) coins will be particularly welcome because they\u2019re greener than Proof-of-Work (PoW) coins like <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2020\/08\/20\/how-buy-bitcoin-simple-steps-nice-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bitcoin<\/a> (BTC). They still need to make a draft for a detailed <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/tag\/regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regulatie<\/a>, because they want to fully embrace these assets safely. The document reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThis response document confirms the government\u2019s intention to take the necessary legislative steps to bring activities that issue or facilitate the use of stablecoins used as a means of payment into the UK regulatory perimeter (&#8230;) The rationale for doing this is that certain stablecoins have the capacity to potentially become a widespread means of payment including by retail customers, driving consumer choice and efficiencies.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NFT, ATMs, and beyond stablecoins in the UK<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the chancellor of HM Treasury has already asked the Royal Mint (issuer of British currency) to create <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2021\/04\/11\/what-are-non-fungible-tokens-nfts-why-fever-ultimate-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">een NFT<\/a> for the nation. John Glen, minister and economic secretary to the Treasury, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/speeches\/keynote-speech-by-john-glen-economic-secretary-to-the-treasury-at-the-innovate-finance-global-summit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">uitgelegd<\/a> dat <strong>the collectible will be launched in the summer of 2022<\/strong> and it\u2019ll be \u201can emblem of the forward-looking approach we are determined to take\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite all of this, we can say that British authorities aren\u2019t willing to accept unregulated services. The EU Parliament approved <a href=\"https:\/\/alfacash.blog\/2021\/07\/20\/european-commission-seeks-ban-anonymous-crypto-wallets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">een voorstel<\/a> to identify every crypto transaction, including the ones from non-custodial wallets.
